The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
The first image of Merciful Jesus was painted in Vilnius in 1934 by the painter Eugeniusz Kazimirowski under the direct guidance of St. Sister Faustina (Helena Kowalska).
The work was created in Vilnius, where Sister Faustina lived in the convent and personally instructed the artist on how the figure of Jesus with rays coming from His Heart should be depicted.
Blessed Fr. Michał Sopoćko, Sister Faustina’s confessor, supervised the work and rented a room for Kazimirowski to use as a studio.
The painting was publicly shown for the first time in April 1935 at the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius.
